Junior Rowing Co-ordinator is Bree Roche.
Our junior rowing is open to anyone between the age of 11 and 16 years old. Here in
Weymouth it has become very popular, with rowers regularly attending the Saturday
morning sessions. We also provide taster sessions for local Schools.
Gig rowing is a very sociable sport and good for all round fitness. When you are taking part we ask that you wear comfy trousers or shorts, not jeans as they can be too restricting. It is also best to wear layers, T shirt - Jumper - Jacket, as you may want to take a layer off when you get warm. You will need to bring a drink of water as you will get very thirsty.
General rowing technique is taught on all of our training sessions, all we ask is that you listen to training instructions. Once we are confident that you are rowing safely it is possible to enter competitions. This year we were able enter 4 crews into our Regatta.
Junior rowing sessions are manned by experienced crew and we also provide a safety boat which is skippered by qualified and experienced members.
There are a lot of opportunities for juniors to progress within the club. Some of our members have joined our adult crews and compete for the club in the World Championships others enjoy the social rowing. One of our members is now Captain of Mixed Rowing for the club.
